In 2020, the Dutch Safety Board published five major investigation reports covering a range of issues: IT outages in hospitals, a large-scale oil spill in the port of Rotterdam, the loss of containers north of the Wadden Islands, lessons learned from road traffic accidents (in response to a wrong-way driving accident) and the partial collapse of the grandstand roof of the AZ football stadium. This section contains a complete overview of the investigations concluded in 2020.

In 2020, the Safety Board concluded 123 investigations. In addition to the five major investigations already described and one preliminary investigation, this total includes the statutory investigations in the sectors aviation, sea shipping and industry. By carrying out these investigations, the Dutch Safety Board contributes to improving safety in these sectors. The outcomes of these 117 statutory investigations are either published as separate reports, or listed in a periodic (quarterly) report, depending on the potential safety gains. The preliminary investigation was undertaken following an accident involving a navy helicopter.
