Underlying principles

The Dutch Safety Board adheres to the following underlying principles when processing personal data

  • The Dutch Safety Board only processes personal data if and when it is required by law to do so. There has to be a legal reason to process the data. The Board ensures that the personal data is only processed for the specific purpose for which it was gathered.
  • The Dutch Safety Board does not process more personal data than necessary.
  • The Dutch Safety Board ensures that the infringement of privacy does not exceed the purpose of gathering the data. In doing so, we choose to process personal data that has the least infringement of privacy if there is a choice between multiple personal data to achieve a goal.
  • At the Dutch Safety Board, we store your personal data:
  • as long as is necessary for the purpose for which it was gathered,
  • or as long as required under the Public Records Act (Archiefwet) and
  • never longer than permitted by law.
  • Personal data is dealt with in confidence. This means that the Dutch Safety Board ensures that only persons with the appropriate authorisation and a duty of confidentiality may process your data.
  • Personal data is appropriately secured. We at least comply with the government’s rules and standards on information security.
  • The Dutch Safety Board agrees on measures with external parties such as software suppliers and data centres. And the Dutch Safety Board monitors whether external parties comply with these agreements.

In some cases, the Dutch Safety Board is legally authorised to request data and information from other organisations within and outside the government. The fundamental principle for this is the Dutch Safety Board Act. Additional information on this can be found on the website under legislation and regulations, coordination protocols.
