The Dutch Safety Board has launched an investigation into the monitoring of traffic safety in response to the introduction of driver support systems in cars. The Board has made this decision following a number of incidents and will centre its investigation on systems used by a variety of car manufacturers.

Among other things, the technical requirements of driver support systems, the instructions given to drivers regarding such systems and the accessibility of accident data recorded by these systems will be examined during the investigation. In its investigation, the Dutch Safety Board will list and analyse a number of accidents.

An increasing number of modern cars have systems which assist drivers while they are driving the vehicle. This support ranges from assistance with a subtask to taking over almost full control in certain circumstances.
