Erica Bakkum completed her medical studies in Leiden in 1990, and went on to specialize in gynaecology at Leiden University Medical Center and Amsterdam Medical Center. In 1994, Dr Bakkum obtained her PhD from Leiden University and the Leiden BioScience Park. Until 2018, she worked as a medical specialist at Amsterdam’s OLVG hospital, where she fulfilled the role of chairperson for the medical staff in addition to a number of supervisory and board positions. From 2018 to 2021, Dr Bakkum was a member of the Board of Directors at Leeuwarden Medical Center. In her work, she seeks to combine an innovative outlook with the drive to connect people and organizations.
Building on her expertise in health care, Dr Bakkum makes a key contribution to the Board’s activities with a special focus on learning from occurrences. Health and safety are important themes that are central to everyone’s lives. When things go wrong unexpectedly, it is essential to learn from these experiences. Drawing on her wide-ranging administrative, supervisory and professional background, Dr Bakkum works to facilitate this process.
