Airprox, Alexander Schleicher ASK 21, PH-1569, Piper PA 46-350P, N417RK, Noordkop Gliding Centre

Status : Closed

The Piper Malibu had taken off from Texel International Airport. After leaving the corridor above the Wadden Sea, the Piper flew at an altitude of about 1,450 feet over the Noordkop Gliding Centre, where a glider was being winched at that time. The Piper's pilot spotted the glider at the last minute and made an evasive maneuver with the Piper flying in front of the glider.

The Piper Malibu is visible on the recorded radar images. The glider is not visible on radar, because the transponder on board the glider had probably not been switched on. The FLARM system on board the glider had been activated. The position and altitude information from the FLARM system were used to determine the position of the glider in relation to the Piper Malibu.

More about this incident can be found in the Quarterly Aviation Report Q3 2021.
