On 1 April 2019 shortly after midnight, a Swiss river cruise ship collided with a Maltese chemical tanker on the Westerschelde, near the Put of Terneuzen (NL). There were 137 passengers and 43 crew members aboard the passenger ship. The chemical tanker was loaded with benzene, heptane and methanol. A number of passengers were slightly injured and the damage to both ships was considerable. Both ships were able to reach the mainland after the collision.
The Dutch Safety Board has started an investigation.
