    Investigation safety of cyclists discontinued

In March 2014, the Dutch Safety Board has launched an investigation into the safety of cyclists and bicycle incidents. At first it was planned to publish the investigation report in the spring of 2015. Because of the concurrence with other investigations by the Dutch Safety Board, it was decided in May 2015 to suspend the investigation temporarily.

In the meantime, several other parties started activities in the field of bicycles and bicycle safety. Both governments, institutes and associations initiated several campaigns, surveys and projects. In response, the Dutch Safety Board concluded that the previously collected investigation material is no longer current. The fact that other parties put bicycle safety on the agenda, reduces the need for an investigation by the Dutch Safety Board. The Board therefore decided not to reopen the investigation into safety of cyclists. At 17 November 2015 the Board formally decided to discontinue the investigation.
