Over 400 surviving relatives visit the reconstruction of MH17

The visits to the reconstruction of the aircraft marked the end of the publication of the final report on the crash of Flight MH17. One week following publication, the animated video posted to the Dutch Safety Board’s YouTube channel was viewed over four million times. The animated video was available in both Dutch and English, with subtitles in Russian and Ukrainian.

On the day of publication, over 220 representatives of the media attended Gilze-Rijen air base for the presentation of the final report. The presentation was broadcasted live to audiences in the Netherlands and abroad by a variety of broadcasters. Prior to publication, nearly 400 surviving relatives attended a private meeting at the World Forum in The Hague, where they were informed by the Dutch Safety Board about the final report. Following publication, the Dutch Safety Board informed 85 embassies in The Hague about the investigation and chairman Tjibbe Joustra explained the report during a private briefing to the Dutch Lower House.

On 23 July 2014, at the request of the National Bureau of Air Accidents Investigation of Ukraine, the Dutch Safety Board assumed leadership of the investigation into the crash of Flight MH17. Now that the final report has been published, a delegation from the Dutch Safety Board will be in Kiev on Wednesday 21 October to finalise the investigation.
