The investigation into the collapse of the dike of the Julianakanaal near Stein on 27 January 2004 has shown that there’s insufficient insight into the safety risks involving pipes in regional dikes. As a consequence of the collapse the 543 inhabitants of the village Oud-Stein were evacuated for two days.
